69XX phone issues

Gone are the days, when Cisco only used to manufacture 79XX phone models varying from generation to generation.
7906G, 7911G be one of the first generation phone model to 7965G, 7975G be third generation phones.
If you are unfamiliar with this terminology, generation word is used to highlight features, design and model structure of ip phones. Now, you know why third generation IP phones are better than first generation phones ;)

Now, Cisco has recently launched new ranges of IP phones, may be because of business requirement and demand in the market. Some of which are 69XX, 39XX , 89XX and 99XX and yes, the outlook is more enhanced and feature savvy.

However, since the launch is recent, CTAC and DE has observed some defects on these models which is dependent on their firmwares. In other words, the issue is phone centric and not on CUCM version.
I would be discussing couple of defects which I came across while working on 69XX series phones.

# The first defect is observed while using SURL for extension mobility setup. When you press SURL button, phone hangs and you have to re-plug the phone to resume working on it. It is also worth mentioning that this defect is affected on 69XX loads, which means it can applies to all 69XX models running skinny load 9-2-1. However, in my lab setup, I also observed this behavior on 9-1-1 load.

6941 phone hangs when service url configured for EM

Symptom:
6941 phone hangs when accessing the service url when this is configured to access extension mobility

Conditions:
Happens with firmware SCCP69xx.9-2-1-0 and when service url is configured for EM

Workaround:
Reboot phone and use the standard method: services -> extension mobility.

# The second defect is on-hook dialing. You would not able to dial in on-hook state of 69XX phones.
On-hook dialing failed when maximum numbers call is set to 2

Symptom:

The 6921/6941/696/6945(SCCP 9-2-1-0) cannot make a call with off-hook. the massage "Unable to create a call; the maximum number of calls for this line has been reached..." popped up
reproduce steps:
 1. Dialed number with on-hook.
 2. Off hook
 3. can not make a call, I can see the dial-tone.

Conditions:
Only occurred on 6921/6941/696/6945 SCCP 9-2-1-0

Workaround:
In CUCM 8.6 and later, configuring maximum number of calls to 3 under
phone's line page can avoid this issue. Prior to CUCM 8.6 there is no
workaround available.
